Seminar: Create More Using Public Content

October 4th 2007

On Wednesday 26th September, Images for the Future organized a seminar at PICNIC'07: 'Create more using public content'. International experts Peter Kaufman (Intelligent Television), Paul Gerhardt (BBC Creative Archive), and Brian Gruber (Fora.tv) shared their vision on the digitization of audiovisual heritage. Images for the Future was given much attention during the session, which was moderated by Vincent Everts (General Partner at InterimIC; CEO at Pczapper.tv).

picnicseminar2007.jpgThe main question posed that morning was: how can you put digitized content out there in an interesting way, while keeping copyright owners satisfied? Kaufman emphasized the importance of cooperation between media professionals and pointed to the changing role of archival institutions in the Youtube era. Gerhardt believed strongly that the key to success lies in letting users create their own things with content. For Gruber, the centre of gravity lies in attracting as many people as possible, in as many ways as possible. Using Fora.tv, Gruber showed a very inspiring example of how so-called ‘long-form’ content (video’s longer than 30 minutes) can be disclosed in a state-of-the-art media player.
