Location, location, location: Mapit1418

31 August 2009 During History Week (October 17 until October 25 2009) Knowledgeland and the National Archive will present the website MapIt1418. “War and Peace” is the theme of the week and this initiative corresponds nicely to it: the site gives access to an exceptional selection of First World War photo material from the National Archive. On this site special attention is given to photos from the Netherlands during the time of war, many of which have never been displayed before.

1000 hours of Barend & Van Dorp online

02 July 2009 In 2008 Holland’s most renowned talkshow hosts Frits Barend and Henk van Dorp drove a trolley filled with all the episodes of their famous talkshow into the Sound and Vision building. As of September 17 Sound and Vision will put over 1000 hours of this unique material on display in their virtual showroom. Not only to let everyone in Holland enjoy it again, but also to be able to sell it.

Sound and Vision and KRO launch videogame

19 May 2009 On the 19th of May, Sound and Vision will launch the annotation game for video ‘Waisda?’ in collaboration with KRO. It’s an intellectually challenging game that asks the player to add keywords to video material and in doing so, the player enhances the searchability of audiovisual archives. Waisda? is a Sound and Vision initiative that builds on several experiments by KRO Internet and is a result of the project Images for the Future.

Sound and Vision embraces 40 years of Pinkpop

14 May 2009 Pinkpop is as alive as ever. Holland’s most famous pop festival is celebrating its 40th edition this year. Sound and Vision, 3FM and the television networks NPS/VARA/VPRO have chosen to tackle this 40th anniversary of Pinkpop in an integral manner. Central to their idea is the complete digital disclosure and documentation of Pinkpop concert registrations and visual material from the archives of Sound and Vision.

Launch of Celluloid Remix on BeamLab

16 April 2009 Filmmuseum and Images for the Future launched Celluloid Remix, an online remix competition with films from the beginning of Dutch film history. Professionals and amateurs will remix special Dutch cinematographic material, dating from the period 1917-1932, into new, short films with their own soundtrack. Yesterday, the competition kicked off with a thrilling live performance by Eboman at a packed BeamLab.
